Adam’s advice to his offspring

Build a garden of wonder
         with the person you love
and over the years
         fill it with all manner
of flowers and trees

Feed on the fruit
         of apple and cherry
and in summer months
         make the most of the berries

In the hedgerows
         plant hawthorn
that blossoms thickly
         in spring

But give pride of place
         to the subtle wild rose
admire its heavenly beauty
         yet respect its sharp thorns
