Finally after all these years
I have a home of my own
A front door to lock
or to unlock when friends
or family arrive at my invitation
and are ushered into my life
into my living room to share
a moment of conversation
or a meal which I have prepared
to the best of my ability
for their delectation
From my window by the table
they may observe the tidal river
and the barges or the tugs
or the huge cargo ships
that carry countless containers
to destinations far and wide
Finally after all these years
a place of my own where I
can sit and meditate on all that
has brought me to this moment
of good fortune So satisfying

Un endroit à moi

Enfin, après toutes ces années,
j’ai un chez-moi. Une porte
d’entrée que je peux fermer à clé
ou ouvrir lorsque des amis
ou de la famille arrivent à mon invitation
et sont accueillis dans ma vie,
dans mon salon, pour partager
un moment de conversation
ou un repas que j’ai préparé du mieux
que je pouvais pour leur plaisir.
De ma fenêtre près de la table,
ils peuvent observer le fleuve à marée
et les péniches, les remorqueurs ou
les immenses cargos qui transportent
d’innombrables conteneurs vers
des destinations lointaines. Enfin,
après toutes ces années, un endroit
à moi où je peux m’asseoir et méditer
sur tout ce qui m’a conduit à ce moment
de bonheur. Tellement satisfaisant.
