that is to say
there is no want
no pressing need
that is to say
a silence of extraneous
appetite

the fox that knows nothing
of its reputation
for stealth and cunning
the rose ignorant
of its beauty or
the nightingale deaf
to its own song

La sagesse ne demande rien de plus,
c’est-à-dire
qu’il n’y a ni désir
ni besoin pressant,
c’est-à-dire
un silence des appétits
superflus.

Le renard qui ignore tout
de sa réputation de furtivité
et de ruse, la rose
ignorant sa propre beauté
ou le rossignol sourd
à son propre chant.

Poésie du jour,
du lever au coucher du soleil,
du souffle et du cœur infatigable,
de l’amour qui offre tout
sans rien exiger, qui demeure
content dans un royaume
au-delà des mots, qui sait
instinctivement quand agir
et quand s’abstenir,
et qui s’abstient donc.
