Love and heartbreak

I belong here – this is my river
cool and swift heading out to sea
with no regrets  There used to be
steamers but the age of steam
has passed  Salmon have returned
and many other species now that
the waters have been cleaned up

This morning the sun is lazing
on the horizon and a gentle breeze
is ruffling the trees’ feathers
There’s not a sound  A pair
of pigeons are playing tag
It looks innocent but I know
what they’re up to  Late-comers
on the dating scene
Who has not been through
love and heartbreak hasn’t lived

de pigeons joue à se courir après ;
cela semble innocent, mais je sais
ce qu’ils manigancent. Des retardataires
en quête d’amour. Qui n’a pas connu
l’amour et le chagrin d’amour n’a pas vécu.
